Matchroom Charitable Foundation’s funding of £10,000 is granted to Time to Talk Befriending to be used towards befriending services, helping over 600 older people overcome loneliness and social isolation.
Time to Talk Befriending was founded in 2013, rooted in a simple belief that everyone deserves to be seen and to feel remembered, valued and connected. Their dementia-friendly services include one-to-one befriending, social events, focus group opportunities and referrals, providing lonely older people with a renewed sense of purpose and joy in later life. More than 3,500 older people have been supported by Time to Talk Befriending, alongside a similar number of volunteers. Their befriending programme assesses an older person and carefully matches them with a community volunteer for meaningful connections and friendship. Visits focus exclusively on conversation and together time. These recent photos of some of our volunteers and scheme members demonstrate the warmth and value of these connections
“I’m very grateful for Time to Talk Befriending. Without you, Tony wouldn’t visit…without Tony’s visits I wouldn’t see anyone bar the carer.” (Thomas, aged 91)
