Matchroom Foundation recently contributed £20,000 to Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots campaign.
Dr Jane Goodall is a globally recognised conservationist and environmental advocate whose life’s work has revolutionised the way we perceive and protect the natural world. Over the past six decades, she has devoted herself to inspiring action for the preservation of wildlife and ecosystems, as well as addressing critical environmental challenges.
At the heart of this mission is the Roots & Shoots programme, a global initiative born from Dr Goodall’s belief in the power of young people to drive meaningful change. Roots & Shoots empowers children and young adults to lead projects that benefit the environment, animals, and their communities, combining education with practical action. The programme encourages creativity and hands-on engagement, helping children to understand pressing issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and social inequality. By fostering compassion, leadership skills, and a sense of responsibility, Roots & Shoots equips the next generation with the tools and confidence to take an active role in shaping a better, more sustainable future for all.
Thanks to Matchroom Foundation’s generous donation, the Roots & Shoots programme has been able to reach an even wider audience, particularly in underserved areas where resources for environmental education are often scarce. Many of these schools face limitations in providing engaging lessons on conservation and sustainability. With Matchroom’s support, the programme has successfully broken down these barriers, delivering interactive activities that make important environmental and social issues relatable and accessible to young learners. From community gardening projects and recycling campaigns to workshops on renewable energy and wildlife care, children are not only learning about these challenges but also discovering how they can make a tangible difference.
“I want to thank Matchroom for their generous support of our Roots & Shoots UK school tour. It is through kindness like this that we are able to empower young people to make a difference for our planet, each other, and the animals we share it with.”
