Alexandra Palace’s Wild in the Park initiative continues to thrive with further £60,000 annual donation for the next three years

Alexandra Palace is famous for hosting world class sporting events, musical concerts and much more. Many people, however, don’t realise they are a charity, supporting thousands of young people each year.

Funding from the Matchroom Sport Charitable Foundation has supported an increasing range of creative learning projects in Alexandra Park that connect local young people with nature. This includes supporting Wild in the Park initiative since 2019, which has provided regular Forest School sessions, holiday creativity camps, gardening groups, competitions, art trails and a host of other activities to educate young people about environmental issues and green solutions. Alexandra Palace have engaged local schools, SEN groups and provided activities for pre-school age children and their parents, guardians and carers. These opportunities are now being enjoyed by more than 4,000 young people each year.

In addition, the funding has also contributed to activities at the Palace’s 150th Birthday Party in May, a free event enjoyed by over 20,000 people; the second ever Skate Jam, held in the Palace’s skate park in April; plus work to redevelop the south-east corner of Alexandra Park into a wetland’s habitat reserve.

Emma Dagnes, Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust CEO: “Support from the Matchroom Sport Charitable Foundation has been invaluable to developing our outdoor learning programme. Thousands of local children and community groups are now visiting the Park to explore and learn about key environmental issues. The funding has also supported a range of strategic projects – from our 150th anniversary to our efforts to develop new wildlife habitat – which are crucial to our charity’s ambition to create a greener and more sustainable future for Ally Pally and all who visit.”
