The Way in Wolverhampton is part of the Onsite youth zone network around the country supported by the Foundation in Dagenham and soon to be in Thurrock. Since it’s opening in 2016, the Way Wolverhampton has supported over 17,500 young people.
On 16th January 2016, we opened our doors to the young people of Wolverhampton. Since then, we have had over 17,500 of them join us and benefit from a safe, inspirational space to get active, get creative and get social.
They came to the Foundation looking for help to replace the two pool tables, which were more than eight years old and reaching the end of their usefulness. They needed to renew the cloth on both tables, add new level legs, and add equipment to support younger and disabled players.
Ryan aged 17 said “When I first came to The Way, I mostly trained on my own in the gym and didn’t really talk to many people. I’d just do my workout and leave. But after a while, I started playing pool with other lads, and that made it much easier to chat and get to know people.
Now I come three times a week and stay longer, we train together and end up playing pool as well. I’ve even started helping others with their fitness. I’m from Liverpool and used to find it hard making friends in Wolverhampton, but playing pool really helped me feel more settled and part of the group”.
