Matchroom Foundation made a £20,000 donation to the anti-knife charity, Steel Warriors that transforms weapons of violence into tools of empowerment.
They melt down knives taken off the streets and recycle the steel into outdoor street gyms. Through street workout, they help young people affected by crime, violence, and social exclusion build the skills and confidence they need to shape positive futures.
Their vision is to see more young lives are built on steel, not destroyed by it. By creating a UK-wide network of gyms—a street workout movement—they aim to inspire young people to pursue their passions, achieve their goals, and foster stronger, safer, and more loving communities.
Established in 2017, Steel Warriors now has four calisthenics gyms in public spaces across London where they run free community classes. In addition to running classes at their outdoor gyms, they also work in schools and community centres and have a Steel Warriors gym in Brixton Prison.
The generous support from Matchroom has contributed to Steel Warriors developing our team and services.
“We are grateful to Matchroom Charitable Foundation for your generous donation of £20,000. Your support is invaluable in helping us grow our work to reduce knife crime and empower young people and communities. Over the past year we have made significant progress, including strengthening our leadership team, introducing female-focused sessions, and extending our work in schools. This kind of growth is only possible with support and commitment of funders like Matchroom Charitable Foundation. Thank you for standing with us as we strive to create safer communities and better futures.”
