Matchroom Foundation continues to fund nurse at Little Havens

The Foundation has supported Little Havens (formally as J’s Hospice) over many years with annual donations to fund a nursing position in it’s Essex based hospice and is delighted to continue the support with a £40,000 award.

Little Havens is the only children’s hospice in Essex and provides specialist care and support for babies, children and young people living with complex or incurable conditions across the county and surrounding boroughs.

Little Havens work closely with the family and their health and social care professionals to ensure their care and support is the best it can possibly be, so the whole family can get the most from life, and make every day count.

This care includes everyone to make sure the right support is there for our families, where and when they need it. Little Havens provides respite care, emergency stays and end-of-life care both at the hospice and in families homes. Little Havens also run a range of regular groups, activities and social events for children, siblings and families, as well as physiotherapy and occupational therapy helping children achieve their full potential.

Older teens and those approaching adulthood often have a tough time as the services around them change once they reach 18. Little Havens works to prepare young people for this transition and work alongside Havens Hospices’ adult hospice, Fair Havens, and other neighbouring hospices and services to ensure support continues into adulthood.

Matchroom Charitable Foundation’s funding supports a nursing role caring for babies, children and young people at Little Havens. As a charity, Little Havens has to raise £11,719 a day to keep services running. The support from Matchroom Charitable Foundation helps  Little Havens be there for the families in the community that rely on them.

Emma Simpson, Head of Children and Young People Service’s said,

‘On behalf of everyone at Little Havens we are so grateful for the generous funding we have been fortunate to receive from Matchroom Charitable Foundation, both this year and in previous years. Little Havens is a special place, but we wouldn’t be able to be there for families and provide the care and support they so desperately need without organisations like Matchroom Charitable Foundation supporting us. Life for a child with a complex and incurable condition, and their family, can be lonely, isolating and hard to navigate. We are proud to be alongside families helping them make the most of every day, as we believe every baby, child and young person in Essex should have the support they need when they are living with an incurable condition.’
