£75,000 funding makes Sense to the Foundation

The Matchroom Charitable Foundation committed a £25,000 annual donation for the next three years to Sense, a leading national disability charity.

The money will be used to fund Sense’s  sport and physical activity programme (known as Sense Active) in Loughborough. This programme will directly support thousands of disabled people with complex needs to participate in inclusive, accessible sports, often for the very first time.

Some of their regular weekly sessions that this funding will facilitate are sensory dance, sensory rounders, rock climbing, sensory football, sensory badminton and multi-sports (darts, snooker and bowling).

Over the next three years, 10,000 individuals in the Midlands could miss the opportunity to get active and access a sport they love as the provision of inclusive sports fails to meet demand. People with disabilities may never get to experience the joy of scoring a goal, developing social skills through team games or maintaining a good level of health both physically and mentally because of a lack of dedicated services.

By supporting Sense’s sports and physical activity programme in Loughborough, the Matchroom Charitable Foundation is central to creating a long-term and sustainable programme of activities to inspire generations, young and old, to get active. With the Foundation’s support, Sense are truly changing the lives of disabled people across the East Midlands through the joy of movement.

James Watson-O’Neill, Sense CEO said ”We’re really pleased and thankful to have the support of the Matchroom Charitable Foundation to help grow our sport and physical activity programme in Loughborough. This funding means more disabled people with complex needs will be able to access meaningful sporting activities that benefit both their physical and mental health.

This partnership also gives us the opportunity to work with local coaches and clubs to make sport inclusive, so that more people across the region can enjoy the benefits of being active, together.”
